When Suresh Raina is on song, there is no cricket field that seems too big. That arch of the back with the head steady on the shoulders and eyes zooming in on the release of the delivery to send it to his favorite part of the ground – the midwicket; is a sight that every Suresh Raina fan enjoys the most. A modern day cricketer, a native of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh; Suresh Raina scored aplenty in the domestic circuit before taking his stride in the big league. He propelled his side to a Ranji Trophy glory in the 2005-06 season with 620 runs in just six games. He made his ODI debut thereafter and became a regular in the ODI setup. The highlight of his ODI career however came in the 2008 Asia Cup wherein he slammed two centuries and finished as the second highest run-getter in the tournament. His Test call-up however came late in 2010 and Raina right away made an impression with a century on debut. But where Raina grabs maximum eyeballs is his performance in T20 cricket. Over the years, he has emerged as one of the mainstays of the Chennai Super Kings squad in the India Premier League, turning in match-winning performances consistently. Not just for his franchise, the left-handed batsman was also impressive in the shortest format of the game for India. He is the only Indian to score a T20I century, a landmark he achieved when he hit 101 off just 60 balls against South Africa at Gros Islet, St Lucia, in the 2010 ICC T20 World Cup. He was also an integral part of the 2011 World Cup winning team .For the generation next, Raina epitomizes fearlessness and attacking strokeplay with a chirpy presence, who gives his hundred percent on the field. The critics, though, are yet to shower wholesome praise on Raina, pointing out his fallibility against the short ball and quality fast bowling. But one can expect the talented young batsman to address those concerns in the near future.
