Shikhar Dhawan (born 5 December 1985) is an Indian international cricketer. He is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional right-arm off break bowler. He played for the Indian Under-17 and Under-19 teams and was the leading run-scorer at the 2004 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his first-class debut for Delhi in November 2004.
Dhawan made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Australia in October 2010 at Visakhapatnam. His Test debut came against the same opposition in March 2013 at Mohali where he scored the fastest century by any batsman on Test debut (85 balls). He ended his innings with 187 runs from 174 balls. He was the leading run-scorer and the Man of the Tournament of 2013 ICC Champions Trophy in England, which India won. In August 2013, he recorded the then second highest individual score in a List A match when he scored 248 runs off 150 balls for India A against South Africa A at Pretoria. In November 2014, he became the fastest Indian batsman to reach the 2000-run mark in ODIs. He was the leading run-scorer of the 2015 Cricket World Cup for India.
Dhawan was born on 5 December 1985 in Delhi to Mahendra Pal Dhawan and Sunaina Dhawan in a Jat family and has a younger sister, Shreshta Dhawan. He did his schooling from St. Marks Senior Secondary Public School in Paschim Vihar. Since the age of 12, he trained at Sonnet Club under the guidance of coach Tarak Sinha, who has trained 12 international cricketers. Dhawan was a wicket-keeper when he first joined the Club.
In 2012, Dhawan married Melbourne-based Ayesha Mukherji, a half-Bengali, half-British amateur boxer.Mukherji was introduced to Dhawan by Harbhajan Singh on Facebook. Mukherji already had two daughters from her previous marriage - Rhea and Aliyah - when she married him. In early-2014, she gave birth to a baby boy named Zoravar.

From a simple cricket-loving youngster going through the grind of domestic cricket to taking the cricketing world by frenzy by scoring the fastest century on Test debut, Dhawan has come a long way. The road to success has not been easy for the left-handed batsman from Delhi as he toiled his way in the domestic circuit year after year only to receive a Test call-up in his ninth year of first-class cricket. The opening batsman scored in plenty but those only made for good reading for the men in love with numbers. India had a stable opening combination in Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir and Dhawan had to wait for his chance to breakthrough in the big league. When he did get his chance, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Such was his dominance in his approach on his Test debut that Dhawan became the talk of the town after treating the Aussie bowlers with utter disdain. He smashed 187 off 174 balls which changed the course of the game completely resulting in India winning the Test comprehensively by six wickets. Following his good run, Dhawan was picked in India's squad for the Champions Trophy. He ended up being the player of the series with 363 runs in five matches at an outstanding average of 90. He hit two centuries in the tournament and was credited for India’s success in the tournament. He was also named player of the series and awarded the gold bat for his stellar batting show.
