“I have had five stress fractures and still haven’t cut down on pace and I don’t think I ever will,” confessed Varun Aaron. Varun Aaron’s love for pace is well known. Ever since he clocked 153 kmph in a domestic tournament back in the 2010-11 season, everyone got a feeling India had finally unearthed a talented fast bowler- A bowler who could generate genuine pace even on flat tracks. That he did and still continues to do. This intent to bowl fast, as he claims, comes from his father who inspired him to take up pace bowling. A product of the MRF Pace Foundation, Aaron was a part of the India Emerging Players squad that went to Australia in 2011. With a good performance in that tournament, Aaron was named in the India ODI squad for the series in England where he did not get a game. He however, made his debut against the same opposition in India. A month later he made his Test debut against West Indies. A string of injuries kept him out of the game for more than two years but he made a comeback in 2014 playing three ODIs in New Zealand and one single game in the Asia Cup.
