Axar Patel is an all-rounder from Gujarat, who made his first-class and List A debuts in the 2012-13 season. A native of Anand, he earned his maiden IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2013. He scored 369 runs in seven matches and picked up 29 wickets for Gujarat during the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season. Owing to his good show in the domestic circuit and a zeal to excel in the international stage, Patel was later drafted in by Kings XI Punjab ahead of the 2014 edition of IPL. After displaying his prowess with the bat and the ball for Kings XI Punjab, Patel earned his maiden ODI call up the same year in a 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

He is a left-hand batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He was signed up by the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians in 2013 and then by Kings XI Punjab in 2014. He made his ODI debut on 15 June 2014 against Bangladesh. He was selected in India's 15-man squad for 2015 Cricket World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.
After excellent performance in the 2014 IPL, Axar was rewarded with a place in the Indian ODI squad for the tour to Bangladesh and made his ODI debut in the first match of series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and took 1/59 runs.
Patel got a call up for the 5 match ODI series against West Indies and played in the 4th ODI where he only conceded 26 runs for 2 wickets in his 10 overs.
He was also a part of 15 man Squad for the 5 match series against Sri Lanka where he played in all 5 matches and took 11 wickets and made 31 runs at a strike rate of 178.
He also part of Team India's 15 men Squad for 2015 World Cup.
Axar's family resides in Nadiad, Gujarat. He has an elder brother named Sanship Patel. He studies engineering in Dharmsinh Desai University.
